With 9.98 million square kilometre area, ten provinces and three territories spanning from the Pacific to the Atlantic and northward into the Antarctic Ocean, Canada is the second largest country by total area. It’s one of the travellers’ ‘must visiting places’ in the world being mother of 7 major beautiful cities -Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Quebec and Ottawa (source: Wikipedia)

Today I am going to talk about Ontario province in Canada as it’s the home to the largest city of Canada, Toronto and capital city of Ottawa.

To me, the most beautiful city of Canada is ‘Niagara Falls’ – where the majestic, spectacular Niagara Falls is located at the edge of Niagara Gorge and it’s in Ontario province. This makes the city world’s one of the top tourists’ natural attractions. You should plan 1-2 days in the city to be able to explore the exciting places as mentioned below:

1. Niagara Falls:

Niagara Falls

It has three sections:

  • Horseshoe falls (640 metres long spanning from Canadian to American Shore)
  • American falls (330 metres in the New York, which is in the east coast of USA) and
  • Bridal Veil Falls which is a small section between these two falls.

You can do all of these to capture the magnificent beauty in your eyes:

  • Take a ferry that goes to the foot of the falls to be able to experience the entire view OR
  • Stand along the railing close to the falls to view the waters tumble 57 metres over the edge into the gorge
  • Visit behind the falls area

Behind the viewing area there is ‘welcome centre’ which has ticket booth – you can purchase ticket for other attractions from here. Also, there are restaurants and shop for you to eat local food and carry a few souvenirs home.

Below the falls, Niagara river flows and forms the ‘whirlpool effect’ and meets at the Ontario Lake.

2. Skylon Tower:

The tower is 235 metre above of the falls and provides the helicopter view of the falls and the overall city. There is an observation deck and revolving dining room (an aristocratic revolving restaurant), it would be a great experience to dine at the restaurant while enjoying the beauty.

3. Behind the Falls:

From the welcome centre at the top, an elevator takes the visitors down to view the lower edge of the horseshoe falls and experience the mist on their faces, what a lovely way to experience the fall which you don’t see from the welcome centre / top of the falls

4. Cable Car Ride on the Whirlpool:

The aero car ride is must to view the strong currents swirling around the river, it’s around 10 to 15 minutes trip.

5. Cruises/ Ferries to View the Base of the Falls:

In order to experience the base of all three sections of the falls, a cruise runs from day to evening carrying the visitors to the base of falls to feel the mist, rain jackets are must as you will get completely wet.

In a nutshell, if you are planning to explore Canada and you are not visiting the beautiful city ‘Niagara Falls’, your visit is not complete. Come and fall in love with Niagara Falls!
